KAMPALA (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by the African region tumbled by 5.5% during the month of August year-on-year.
Egypt produced 453,000 tonnes of crude steel, considerably lower by 25.9% when compared to 612,000 tonnes production achieved during August 2014. Libya’s crude steel output dropped sharply by 88.9% to 3,000 tonnes during the month of August this year. Morocco’s output recovered by 7.8% to 65,000 tonnes, when compared to 60,000 tonnes production achieved during August 2014. South Africa’s crude steel increased considerably to 645,000 tonnes during the month when matched with 532,000 tonnes during the same month a year before.
Egypt’s output has dropped marginally when compared with 465,000 tonnes during July this year. Libyan crude steel output in August ‘15 dropped heavily by over 18,000 tonnes over the previous month. Morocco’s production increased marginally during the month. South African production remained flat when matched with the previous month.
